What is PetroGuard?

PetroGuard is an anti fuel theft system designed to reduce fuel thefts. PetroGuard is also a national database tracking system of known fuel offenders.

How does PetroGuard work?

PetroGuard stores all necessary information about fuel theft offenders and is checked every time a person attempts to acquire fuel. Your vehicle's registration number is scanned and checked against the database. If a match is found, you will be required to prepay for your fuel until you have cleared any previous fuel debts for the vehicle.

What if my vehicle registration number isn't recognisable?

If your vehicle registration number cannot be recognised, due to being bent, dirty, or otherwise damaged, you will automatically be required to prepay your fuel. If a staff member can do a manual check of the PetroGuard database by viewing your vehicle registration number, prepaying may not be required.

How are the Police involved?

PetroGuard is working to assist Police in prosecuting fuel theft offenders to the full extent of the law. PetroGuard makes it easier to collect data from photos taken of your car, video footage of the fuelling and drive off. Data is submitted to the police upon their request.
